My favourite bars in the Hamilton Area

Well, I like to consider myself 'experienced' in the Hamilton Bar Scene. I spent 4 years of my life there, and have ventured back frequently ever since.

1. Slaintes: I have to put this bar at the top of my list because it's the "Shannon gets drunk and silly bar" . I love the Irish pub atmosphere because it offers great music, and small dance floor, and it is always packed on Saturday nights. I organized the Nursing pre-graduation (end of year) party here, and it went over very well! I always drink too much, and think I can dance like I'm Irish.. a sure miss. Funny to watch though.

2. West-End Pub: $ 2.50 pints on Wednesday... need I say more?? I used to live down the street from this small pub, and enjoyed many a drink there. It used to have awesome pizza, but has cut that out of the menu. I really don't mind the food though, and always love going here for a pint and the hockey game!

3. The Phoneix: This bar is on the McMaster campus, and it is a great spot for a pint. They have Hoegarten and Stella on tap.. so I'm a big fan. Apparently they also have an Apricot beer that I need to try.

4. The Collins: (Dundas) Dave's band plays there... need I say more...haha.. ok, I love their patio during the summer, and their food is also pretty good. They have decent beers on tap, and I like the 'small town' appeal of it.

5. Billy Bob's... ok I know that everyone who knows this bar is shaking their head and wondering why I would EVER put it down. It's definitly not a favourite of mine any more. However, when you are in 1st year university, and they offer 1.50 drinks on Tuesday nights... you go. It's definitly a meat market, and I haven't been in 3 years... but it is full of insanely hillarious and fun memories that I will always keep. The street lights on the way home are the best part...

6. The Thirsty Cactus ( Dundas): I used to really love this bar, as they had Kawartha Lakes Raspberry Wheat beer on tap. They have since changed the beer to Waterloo dark.. and I am not a big fan. However, I love their juke box, and playing trivia there... just some good memories again.

7. Hess Village (the whole darn thing): I love going to Hess in the summer for some patio action. I don't really love any of the bars, but always seem to have fun when I go. I like the option of bar hoping on one street, and would highly recommend going to Hess to anyone visiting Hamilton.

That's it, that's all.. Cheers.

Quickest Course of My Life

Well, It's been one full week, and I've finished another Master's elective. Well.. not entirely as I have a paper, presentation, and critiques to finish.. but classes are over. It's been a whirlwind week of mental health and housing, and I'm a little fried. I have 3 weeks to dedicate myself to my paper and presentation, and then one week to get packed and leave this country! Crazy eh?!

This weekend, I'm crazy busy with working on my RA work and finishing my ethics proposal for Western. I still might need to complete the ethics form for McMaster, so that I can collect my data closer to my NEW home! I can't wait to start... so good.

I feel like I've been stuck in a stream, and now I've been released into the lake where I can swim a little more freely. I'm loving it~

Back to work for now.

We Have a Home!

Well, after another weekend of looking for a place, I'm proud to announce that we found a place!! And a VERY nice place too! As of September 1st, we'll be living in a 2 level condo in an apartment building in Dundas. Dave and I are super happy with it, and couldn't believe how utterly gorgeous and new it was.

We're pumped, ready to travel, and ready for our move!! Can't wait to have some visitors once we're moved in. We'll need to have some celebratory sips!

Woo HOO!

New York Helicopter Accident

Yesterday, there was a helicopter accident in New York City. A sight-seeing helicopter, carrying 3 Australians and 3 people from France, submerged into a body of water. My friend Taryn was one of the Aussies, and her boyfriend was another one. Luckily, they are ok, and the 3rd Aussie is doing well too. It's scary to think that something could have happened to her. We met 3 years ago while doing a Contiki Europe trip. We've been in touch ever since, and she came to stay with me in Hamilton 2 years ago.

I guess I'm just relieved that she and her boyfriend are ok.

Discography comes close

Well, I don't know if it was the Pylon Orange T-shirts, but Discography played the tightest game yet tonight. The score was 9-4 for the Phys-Bees, but we made them work for it. It was a fun night, and the team we played had the best spirit yet. I'm proud to say that I got my first goal tonight! I think I have 2 assists and 1 goal now. I think my game is improving.

That's it for tonight. Will work on the sponsorship deal with the Alibi tomorrow. Need some advice from my bro first!!

Night!

Bars I like

I decided I would do something a little different with my blog today.. I'll post a review of bars I enjoy in London, ON. (Note: these are not listed in order)

1) The Grad Club: With 19 beers on tap and a location near our health sci building, it is obvious why this bar makes the list. Regardless of if we thought we bombed stats, finished our last class of the semester, or need a drink after a class, the grad club is always open and 'oh so good' to us. This bar has been the scene of many 'Richard is drunk' incidents, Michelle's penis-birthday cake, and our St. Paddy's day drinking festivities.

2) Molly Bloom's: This is a great Irish drinking bar for those occasions where you want to get drunk and silly. I have been drunk and silly in this bar more than once... and I love that most other people are that way too. The live band is always fun, and the beer is enjoyable. Also good for dinner!

3) The Honest Lawyer: This bar has Leffe Blonde on tap... need I say more?! Actually, it has a ton of beers on tap, and is a good place to drink and watch some sports. Not fond of the menu though. Upstairs is 'Downtown Kathy Browns', which is great to go to for a laugh. I have been there on Retro night, and it is quite funny to see everyone all pumped about 80's music.

4) Alex P. Keaton's: Was there last night with my friend Lindsay... good times! They have a nice patio with Christmas lights, and a relaxed atmosphere. A lot of their beers are micro-brews, which is a nice change if you want to switch it up a little. Their menu is super expensive, but looks intriguing. Inside, they have a few tables and a band set up. Great summer atmosphere!

5) The Alibi: Not a typical bar that you'd think to go to... but Jenn introduced me to it, and I've liked it since. We head here every Monday night after frisbee for some drinks and dinner. It's a laid back sports bar, that doesn't mind having 10 + sweaty frisbee players come in and sit down. Stella is my beer of choice at this bar!

6) The Barking Frog: I included this bar last minute, because it's a good dress-up bar. I find that their martini's are a lot better than the Martini bar, and I like their quiet candle-lit atmosphere.

Alright... I know there are TONS of bars left to comment about... but I'll leave that upto my readers to make posts about their fav bars.

Next Post.... Hamilton Bars....

Bell Canada .... you make me mad!

Well... as you might already know, my phone and internet have been down for a week now. I came home today to hear a dial tone for the first time, and then I found out that my line is now crossed with someone named Crystal. I'm less than impressed with all the problems I've had with Bell. My internet is now working again, but my phone is still wacky, and should be fixed by the end of the day... headaches upon headaches!

Frisbee:
We had our 2nd game last night, and lost big time again. I noticed that our game was getting a lot tighter though, and hopefully in a couple more weeks we will be scoring more points. Our team headed to the Alibi for some after game drinks and dinner. We'll be practicing this Thursday at 7pm.

Weekend:
Was in Dundas this weekend, to see Dave's band play at the Collins for Buskerfest. They sounded awesome, and of course the bassist was my fav... but that's not news! We also booked our hostels for our trip... we'll be in London England from July 31-4th, then start our tour, then to Belfast on the 18-20th, and Dublin on the 20th-24th, then home again!

Last News of the Day:

I was just awarded the IODE grant from Sigma Theta Tau, which means I get $1000 for my proposed research study for my thesis. I'm pretty honoured and excited!

Gotta go.
